" Tonight gave us a chance to get some distance away from Sandhurst Club who are snapping at our heels for second place. The Pride of Kent had other ideas and, with three new players, Dan started us off again and won the first leg comfortably. He couldn’t keep his form up and went down 1-2. Richard played next against the slowest player in the league. He easily won 2-0 in a fast paced match! Phil J carried on his good form with a business like 2-0 victory. Nigel scored excellently but his opponent didn’t give an inch and beat him 2-0 in 14 and 15 darts. Dave, who is enjoying something of a comeback, finished well to win his game 2-1. Jamie brought up the rear, but had no answer to some heavy scoring and lost 1-2. This put it level at 3-3. The pairs went our way with us winning 2 out of 3 and the trebles were shared 1-1. This gave us an overall score of 6-5. The singles knockout is upon us next week and we hope to get at least one player through to the final stages if the others let us." "With two players off this week we thought we might struggle to get a decent result. The team had other ideas and responded well with even SuperSub Ron Jones making a rare trip into the winner’s enclosure! Richard kicked things off with a no frills performance. Dave followed with another business like display. Ron, our SuperSub then stepped up. He lost a tense first leg and looked to be going down 0-2. An inspired collection of scores followed and an unexpected 62 finish levelled the game. He went on to win with a 32 finish. This obviously inspired Jamie who was unstoppable. Nigel had one of his best matches winning the second leg in 12 darts which included a superb 136 out shot. Dan made easy work of his opponent to give us a 6-0 lead. The trebles draw went our way and they were easily won 3-0. Now 8-0 in front our thoughts turned to the elusive 11-0. The first treble of Nigel, Dan and Richard won comfortably to keep this a possibility. Unfortunately Dave, Jamie and Ron couldn’t find the all important double and we had to settle for an unexpected 10-1 victory." "This looks like an easy victory but it wasn’t. Most of the games went 2-1 with only one of our players stumbling to a loss. Dave started thing off by losing the first leg. He found his form and went on to win 2-1. Dan, still suffering from double trouble, came unstuck 1-2 in what should have been a formality for him. Nigel had a small scare but finally won 2-1. Jamie and Richard put in solid performances winning their matches 2-0. Phil struggled with his scoring and doubles against an inspired opponent. He held on to score a well deserved 2-1 victory. This put us 5-1 ahead. The pairs were won 2-1 and the trebles 2-0 to give us an overall margin of 9-2. Hopefully The White Hart lost 11-0 last night and with this result we might have a chance of catching them up. Unlikely!" "Usually matches between us and The Bull are close fought affairs with it going to the last game. This season they, like us, haven’t been firing on all cylinders. Jamie started things off. He scored well but couldn’t get the double to take the first leg. His opponent caught him up and took it. This gave Jamie a wake up call and he went on to win 2-1. Nigel was next up. In one of his usual displays he comfortably won 2-0. Richard and Lee followed suit with easy victories. Phil struggled to find his range and lost 0-2. Dave, dressed to impress, also couldn’t find his usual form and he too lost 0-2. This put us 4-2 ahead. The pairs went the way of our hosts 1-2 in three very close matches. Nigel stood out with a fine 120 finish. With only the trebles to go we were 5-4 in front. The first treble was very close with both sides missing the double. Lee finally sealed the win with double 16. This left Nigel, Richard and Jamie to grab the extra point. Nigel again finished well on 118 (17, 51 Bull). It’s the trebles knockout next week. Hopefully we’ll do well enough to have some interest in the final." "Both teams were unsuccessful last night in the trebles ko. Maybe next year." "We’ve finally come to the last match of the season and we welcomed new league champions The White Hart. Our cunning plan was to spoil the party for them with their first defeat of the season. Things began well with Nigel and Richard both winning their games 2-1. The plan was working so far. Dan, although suffering from a mystery illness, gave a good show of himself but lost 1-2 in the end. Lee showed plenty of promise against their only undefeated player but again went down 1-2. We weren’t worried at this point. Dave struggled with his scoring and he also lost 1-2. The final singles went the White Hart’s way to put us 2-4 behind. Having pushed them in almost all the matches we fancied our chances in the pairs but, despite good scoring from everyone, these went to our opponents 1-2. The wheels had definitely fallen off with us now 2-6 adrift. We gave a good account of ourselves in the trebles but lost them 0-2. This put the final score at 3-8 to our visitors. Congratulations to The White Hart for having an undefeated season. Hopefully we’ll return with a stronger team next year to give them a run for their money." |
