"Our first match after the Christmas break and we hoped to start the year with a good win. Things started well with Jamie, Nigel and Phil all winning their games 2-0. Dan began his match in promising form with three tons but double trouble reared it’s head and he lost the first leg. The scoring wasn’t so good in the second and again doubles were a problem. He finally lost 0-2. Phil J made his intentions clear from the off and threw his best darts of the season. He easily won the first leg but lost the second on the double. The decider was a close affair but Phil managed to score well and finish to win 2-1. Richard finished the singles with a no frills 2-0 victory. This put us 5-1 ahead. The pairs, one of our strongest sections, didn’t go according to plan and we lost them 1-2. The trebles were shared 1-1 to give us an overall scoreline of 7-4." "We found out that we are 12 points behind our rivals The White Hart. This was our ‘game in hand’ and gave us the opportunity to catch them up. Jamie started the evening off with a loss. Going down 1-2 in a messy opener. Things improved with fine victories from Dan, Richard and Phil W. Nigel, even though he scored his first 180 of the campaign went down 2-0 in a superb game. Phil J suffered more double trouble in a match he should easily have won and lost 0-2. This put things level at 3-3. The first two pairs were shared. Phil J and Dan showed what they’re capable of by winning a tense final one. Phil played and scored well and had his first 180 of the season. We were now 5-4 ahead. The trebles were shared to give us an overall victory of 6-5. We are now 6 points behind and play The White hart next week. Hopefully we’ll play as we know we can and give them a bit of a scare." "Not a good night for the team. The White Hart proved to be unstoppable as they romped to what looks an easy victory. Dan started things off and gave an excellent account of himself narrowly losing 1-2. He scored his first 180 of the season. Jamie wasn’t in ‘dart mode’ at all and lost 0-2 in a very one sided contest. Richard gave his usual Captain’s innings and after two close legs won the decider easily. Hopes that this would inspire the team were short lived as Phil went down 0-2. Lee, making his debut, had a match he should have won. He scored well for two legs but despite being well ahead in the deciding leg, double trouble reared it’s head. This gave his opponent time to catch up and take the victory. Dave finished off the singles with a valiant effort but wasn’t given any chances. We were now 1-5 behind. The wheels definitely fell off in the pairs. We won all three when we played last time but The White Hart had their revenge and reversed that scoreline. Now 1-8 adrift we were playing for pride. Unfortunately our opponents weren’t feeling compassionate and won both the trebles to win the match 1-10. Well played to The White Hart. They now have an almost uncatchable lead of 16 points. As one of the team said last night. They did to us what we’ve been doing to others for years!" "Following our dismal display at The White Hart the team hoped to get things moving in a positive direction this week. Dan started things off with a fine 2-1 victory against a tough opponent. Phil W won his match 2-0 but was hard pushed in the second leg with both players scoring 180’s. Richard almost made a mess of his game but finally won 2-1. Dave broke his duck with a fine win which included a superb 130 finish. Phil J was up against it losing the first leg badly. He responded with a 12 dart second leg which included his second 180 of the season. His best of the season. It was in vain as he lost the decider. Nigel had one of his usual performances winning 2-0. This put us 5-1 ahead and firmly in the driving seat. Unfortunately Sandhust were having none of it and won all three pairs. Even a 180 from Dave couldn’t inspire us. Now 5-4 ahead the first treble was lost to level the match. Nigel, Richard and Dave outscored their opponents to easily win the decider. This gave us an overall victory of 6-5." " Tonight gave us a chance to get some distance away from Sandhurst Club who are snapping at our heels for second place. The Pride of Kent had other ideas and, with three new players, Dan started us off again and won the first leg comfortably. He couldn’t keep his form up and went down 1-2. Richard played next against the slowest player in the league. He easily won 2-0 in a fast paced match! Phil J carried on his good form with a business like 2-0 victory. Nigel scored excellently but his opponent didn’t give an inch and beat him 2-0 in 14 and 15 darts. Dave, who is enjoying something of a comeback, finished well to win his game 2-1. Jamie brought up the rear, but had no answer to some heavy scoring and lost 1-2. This put it level at 3-3. The pairs went our way with us winning 2 out of 3 and the trebles were shared 1-1. This gave us an overall score of 6-5. The singles knockout is upon us next week and we hope to get at least one player through to the final stages if the others let us." "With two players off this week we thought we might struggle to get a decent result. The team had other ideas and responded well with even SuperSub Ron Jones making a rare trip into the winner’s enclosure! Richard kicked things off with a no frills performance. Dave followed with another business like display. Ron, our SuperSub then stepped up. He lost a tense first leg and looked to be going down 0-2. An inspired collection of scores followed and an unexpected 62 finish levelled the game. He went on to win with a 32 finish. This obviously inspired Jamie who was unstoppable. Nigel had one of his best matches winning the second leg in 12 darts which included a superb 136 out shot. Dan made easy work of his opponent to give us a 6-0 lead. The trebles draw went our way and they were easily won 3-0. Now 8-0 in front our thoughts turned to the elusive 11-0. The first treble of Nigel, Dan and Richard won comfortably to keep this a possibility. Unfortunately Dave, Jamie and Ron couldn’t find the all important double and we had to settle for an unexpected 10-1 victory." |
