Shaun Aylward beat Grinner Bennett 2 - 1 to become Singles Champion, Richard Jones and Shaun Aylward beat Alan Head and Mark Shaw 2 - 0 to win the Pairs Crown. The team beat The Bull 3 - 0 to win the China Rhoades Cup and Mark Shaw won the trophy for the most 180's. Thanks have to go to the team for their patience and more importantly, talent and skill during what has been a very frustrating season for us all. They are: Alan Head, Mark Shaw, Nigel Gregory, Jamie Collison, Phil Wilford and 'Supersub' Ron Jones. Alan particularly shone as he remained the only unbeaten player all season. He also had the best overall season average of: 22.28 (66.84). Season Averages for the rest of the team were: Richard 20.58 (61.74) Nigel 20.20 (60.60) Phil 20.39 (61.17) Mark 19.97 (59.91) Jamie 18.38 (55.16) Shaun 21.04 (63.12) Special thanks go to Eileen Catt for her superb catering (for which Supersub Ron expresses his eternal gratitude). Colin Burchett for keeping the website up to date and Sue Gregory who had the difficult job of getting money out of people for the Bus Stop. The team are taking the summer off but will be back to defend their titles in September. Richard - Team Captain.

"This win pretty much guarantees us the league again. We aren't sure how far ahead we are but we do know that if we win our last match it's ours. It was a good performance from all the team. Alan Head particularly sparkled as he had two 19 dart legs to score his best average for the season (and top average this week) of 26.37(79.11). This failed to inspire Phil Wilford though who struggled with just as many darts to win his first leg! We eventually ran out 6 - 0 leaders after the singles. After stepping off the gas we were beaten in the pairs 2 - 1 with arguably the top two partnerships losing. The trebles were shared 1 - 1 for a solid 8 - 3 victory." "Round two of the China Rhodes Cup saw us up against some very stiff competition. Sandhurst recently beat us in the league and we wanted to prove that was a fluke. We did so in impressive style. Alan and Jamie kicked proceedings off with a solid 2 - 1 win followed by Mark & Nigel, who also won 2 - 1. Phil and Richard sealed the win with yet another 2 - 1 victory. With the result in the bag the trebles were a formality. Nigel, Phil and Alan winning the first one 2 - 1 again. Mark started the second trebles with an unexpected 180 which put the icing on the cake. He went on with Richard and Jamie to win 2 - 0." "Our last match of the season was made a lot easier when our opponents arrived with only three players. We, being the sporting team we are, let them play twice n the singles. this didn't really help them. With our confidence high and the darts flowing well we easily out-gunned them. Every match, with one exception, was won 2-0 with superb averages from everyone plus 180's from Alan and Nigel. Six nil ahead after the singles The Crown decided to only play one pairs and trebles. These were won in fine style with Mark scoring his third 180 of the season. Top average this week was shared with three players! Mark, Phil and Richard all with 23.30 (69.90). We have now been confirmed as League Champions so we are now concentrating on the Singles, Pairs, Tean and China Rhodes knockouts. We hope to win them all." "This was the semi final for the competition. Mark & Nigel kicked things off with a 2-0 win followed by Phil & Richard who decided to drop a leg to keep the audience interested. Alan & Jamie wrapped up the win with another 2-0 victory to keep us on course for a trophy clean sweep on finals night. (Unfortunately the evening was marred by the exit of Arsenal from the Champions League due to some dodgy refereeing.......)" |
